My Big Metal Cock and Other Things a Lesbian Shouldn't Say

Kitchen

for the most part J and I agree on how to arrange furniture and what we find appealing in regards to decorating...but there's one thing that we have that I have always loved that J has always hated....

a big tin cock - very folk-artsy and rustic...it has nothing to do with the Gamecocks either, though J did sneak UGA hats and pins and signs on it right after we moved up here to annoy my brothers....

sometime last year, I agreed to pack my giant cock in order to put other dust catchers up around our den, while cleaning out the storage/dog/laundry room over the weekend...I decided it was time to bring him back out...J was not thrilled to see the cock

after discouraging any prominent placement of the giant cock, he finally came to rest on top of the refrigerator in an out of the way corner....though as big a cock as this happens to be, I may have to use it as a new place to leave inappropriate notes for my other half...she loves those sentimental gestures...

like I need more reasons to be paranoid

there's a missing Hydrogen Bomb less than 200 miles from here, near Tybee Island off the coast of Georgia...and it's been there for almost 50 years...and our military just lost it there and stopped looking for it after only a week...

sonofabitch...

how do you lose that? it weighs almost 8000 lbs. and looks like a giant penis...I mean misplacing the car keys is one thing, but an armed nuclear weapon? I'd have thought we might want to get that back...

but hell no - it gets better, there have been lots of other incidents where big freaking nuclear bombs just get
lost...apparently about dozen...give or take a few...were lost during the cold war alone!!!!

and I'm not the only one stirred up about it either...these folks are really agitated

mostly though, I'm concerned about this....

O Dark Thirty

super man 5:00 am
There have been spells during my life when I've had to get up really early to be at work...and as I may have mentioned before, I don't do well right off the bat in the morning...it takes me a few hours to wake up and it's really best if those hours are quiet...

fortunately, the job I have now doesn't require me to be there until 8:30 or 9...so it's perfect, I have my routine, my quiet time and generally I'm not a raving bitch...

today, I took off because the MIL has a drs appt. and since it's easier for me to take time off (and because my urge to throttle her is weaker than J's most of the time) I volunteered to pick her up and take her...oh, and I never need much of a reason to blow off work

well, for the last few weeks or so, it's been hot here....no surprises there, it's August in SC and we'll be stuck with the heat for a few more months at least, so I (once again) volunteered to take J to work so that the crazy, old lady dear old thing could be chauffeured around in an air-conditioned car....

that meant I had to get up at 4 fucking 30 (ish) in order to be out the door with J at 5 fucking 15 (ish).....good god that's early, it's dark, there's not many people other than cops and trucks on the road and it's really, really early, I didn't even have time to make coffee, not that I had the right kind anyway...

so now it's not even 8:00 am and I've been up for hours and haven't even seen my MIL yet, but I did get some coffee and I've gotten to fuss at the dogs for a few extra hours for chasing the cats and laundry is started and the kitchen is clean and the trash is out and I've gotten to blast bluegrass so it hasn't been a total waste, but damn I'm ready for a nap

Mindless Doodles

doodles

just a page from my new sketch book....magicians, circus animals and a cat wearing a frilly shirt....

I wish these characters were going to be at the meetings I'll have to attend this afternoon....the real people that will be there are much less interesting

fun stuff

we had an urge to get out of the house this morning and decided to head over to a local used bookstore...the first place I ever worked for real as a matter of fact...we found....

books

that's a Tannen's Catalog of Magic, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Sewing, Whittling and Woodcarving, Smithsonian History of Toys and Games, Gourd Crafts, Draw Real People, Art of Pencil Drawing and an overview of American Indian Art...

dangerous for me to start buying books again...but oh so satisfying....and I need some inspiration...these all have good pictures

J said she could totally see me working there as an obnoxious teenager

next we headed to the local Ace Hardware...our 2nd visit within 24 hours (a friend needed us to pick up a surprise birthday gift for her gf last night - hahaha)....there we got something that J thinks will improve my safety record with wood carving tools...a fillet glove...

glove

it's made of super secret, robot fibers and it cut resistant...

and yes as soon as I opened it and put it on, I headed straight for the knife block...J's back was turned and she still told me NOT to even THINK about testing the glove...geez, I hadn't even gotten the Santucko out of its place...

when we got home, we had packages from leeza :)

leeza book

copies of her original sketch/idea book (with free sharpies btw)....leeza is an outstanding artist and has designed this book with a variety of blank and lined pages and mini-story board frames and neat combinations of them all...with shipping it's about $10 bucks and I have a feeling it's going to be the gift of choice for nieces and nephews this year at Christmas....go check it out, buy a few, and enter the contest!

lastly, my most embarrassing purchase of the day...J said they were cute...what could I say to that? and they have pink in them...extra bonus :)

My Grandparents

longing

both of these images were taken during WW2....my grandmother was here in SC with a young son, while my grandfather served in N. Africa then Europe.....my grandmother would write him long letters and enclose pictures of her and the family at home....a buddy of my grandfather's was a photographer and gave him a bunch of pictures to show everyone where he'd been...

I like the two images together, because I imagine they both spend a great deal of time thinking of the other

The Weather People are Crazy

I don't where these stories of 100+ degree temperatures come from...another liberal media ploy to propagate the myth of global warming....

Hell, it was downright chilly here yesterday...

are my trash men/women

trashy trash can

illiterate?

I wrote in big, red letters...on this trashy trash can

Trash

Please Take

This is week 2 of it not being taken....obviously it isn't my manners, I said please...

J says we should put it in a trash bag...that seems like overkill to me, but it's only a matter of time before it turns into a prop for the skateboarders....I don't want any injured teenagers on my conscience...

but it's making my curb un-tidy...what to do, what to do????

not much of anything

just some stuff

* I'm too old to attend hip parties anymore, I'd rather stay home
* I should not shop at Walmart E.V.E.R. without being medicated
* Blue laws suck
* It's hot as hell and I want a car with AC
* Police cars in front of a neighbors house WILL make other neighbors (including me) come out and gawk at your dumb ass
* Fresh SC shrimp are so freaking good
* I absolutely adore a quiet, tidy house
* New cat is bonding well with his brothers and sisters
* I have a serious disorder when it comes to buying cleaning products
* I like to hug our new (old) refrigerator...being an inanimate object, it doesn't violate my personal space issues or rules
* Weekends should be longer than 2 days
* I've pretty consistently posted to this blog for over 2 years now
* I thought for a long time I wanted a kid, but back to school shopping is a huge reminder why it's good we are child-free
* Summer TV mostly sucks
* I could easily live at the beach and never work
* We made a joint decision NOT to decorate for Christmas this year...but we picked up a few kid things for Christmas presents this afternoon
* Sex is a wonderful wonderful wonderful thing...especially with the same person after so many years....I highly recommend it....
