SPF - Behind

muddy ice cream truck

Kristine wants to see some behinds this week even though her and Shaun just had a date...I'm taking the high road on this one

I love the giant ice cream cone behind the muddy truck...it's been there forever...I also love the muddy truck....splatter like that you just can't wash off until you've shown it off around town for a week or so...yeehaw

Did you show your behind? Let Kristine know if you did.

Peeps Puppets

peeps puppets

I really don't like Peeps, they pretty much disgust me on a lot of different levels...but I do like stick puppets - as opposed to evil puppets that attack you in your sleep or keep butcher knives hidden under the stairs....oops off track

I have on occasion made stick puppets - the best of which was the penis puppet who regularly did shows with the transvestite puppet above the cubicle walls of an office where I worked...again that's off track, sorry

Earlier in the week, the newspaper started a spoof of AI, but with Peeps...every day this week one has gotten voted off and at the end of this genius idea...the remaining Peep will win I guess...not caring for Peeps this contest didn't interest me at all....the graphics they used were what caught my eye...there were life-sized color Peeps all over the page....what could I do with that?...there was really only one answer - Stick Puppets

So tonite, I made a set and will most likely have to make another because these were supposed to go into an Easter basket that needs to be mailed to a niece in Florida really soon...yeah right, J didn't buy that for a minute either...I think they may be busy next week exploring...

shows at 12:00, 1:30 and 3:00

Old Photos - Part 2

Backstage at the "girlie" show at the state fair

in spite of what I said a few days ago about my old family pictures, I really really really love vintage photographs...recently I ran across Shorpy, an incredible photoblog showcasing pictures from the first half of the 1900's...

some other great sites with more of the same, including WPA pieces from the New Deal era

Bound For Glory
New Orleans Public Library Online Photography Collection
WPA Murals
University of TN Collections

all of these are huge time-eaters, so be forewarned...but well worth any time spent digging around on them

edited to add: I hope those links were working today, they weren't just now and I think I've fixed them

Lisa asked and I should have put the info up to start with about the photo above

old family pictures

are better left packed away - somewhere safe and guaranteed not to suprise you first thing in the morning....they are better off anywhere other than my head and I prefer their company much more when Jack Daniels is involved...

getting our gourd on

it's been a long time since there has been any gourd activity going on here...J has been steadily working on this one for a friend and she put the final coat of poly on it yesterday...I love the colors and the shape...

more J's gourd

this is going to be a pitcher if I ever finish it - I cut the top off to use for the dragon's egg last year...I found another gourd in NC that I thought I could use as a handle, I figured out how to put it together a few months ago and haven't touched it again until yesterday when I started experimenting with some wisteria vine that had wrapped itself around the lawnmower...still don't know what I'll ultimately wind up with....

the game is on

redneck spotting

the redneck neighbor and I play a little game once grass cutting season starts...who's gonna cut the common area we share?...usually I lose and wind up cutting it because I'm a litte OCD about the grass...but that's another issue entirely

so this morning, I made a bad tactical move...I got my lawnmower out first...I just wanted to see if it was going to crank (which it did) but then I realized I had created the perception that I was actually going to cut grass (which I wasn't at the time)....

so the redneck neighbor, ups the ante a little bit and brings out his weed whacker...and then his mower...I'm feeling a little better until he disappears inside for a long, long time...I figured I'd lost again and was just getting ready to suck it up and put yard clothes on, when I hear him firing up his equipment.....sure enough, he caved...

It's yellow outside

what pollen looks like
everything is covered in pollen...
dogwoods
everything is starting to bloom...
shorts and <span class=
and since it's going to be almost 90 here today, shorts and birks (without socks) are definitely called for....
self portrait allergies suck
as is a mask should there be any outdoor activities on the agenda...even then it's questionable

so instead of cutting grass, raking and doing general yardwork, I decided to screw around with my template...and found out save changes really means save changes...oh well, the minimalist look works for me too...for the time being

vacation planning

vacation wish list

we are still trying to decide what exactly we'll be doing on our road trip to Florida in June...gay days is pretty much off the list this year and I've narrowed it down to a few other activities that sound appealing to me...J's list is a little different but I'm working on it

I'm playing with new headers too...this one probably won't last long

Caption this...

it was about this time last year, the great azalea mass-a-cree happened next door...so imagine my delight when I saw the truck between the houses a little while ago...

that would be 3/4 of an empty 12-pack of Busch in the bed of his truck and an extension cord in his lap...he also has pliers in his hand and the lawnmower out...so what's that redneck up to do you wonder?

at least he has his overalls on so there's no risk of getting crack flashed...I hate it when that happens....

now go ahead - caption away...I have to go sit by the window with the camera

I refuse to believe

I have another sinus infection...though the pain, swelling and day spent in bed would say otherwise...ice is good and hopefully it passes quickly...truthfully, I am past tired of getting them.

whine over.

it's been unseasonably warm

here this week and now I know why...Columbia SC is feeling the fiery flames of hell because somehow queer TV has crept into our cable lineup...yes indeed, we discovered a short while ago that we have LOGO....I cannot believe it...the first show we caught was about 2 boys getting gay married....tomorrow there's a drama about naughty prison girls with tattoos....I told J it would be like watching HGTV and the Food Network, but with sex...we can only hope

it's what we do

car

my family, that is...we drive things...all of us...we just like things that make you go...

this week my niece turns 15...unbelievable in itself, but most important to her, it means she can get a driver's permit...not that she hasn't been driving stuff for years already - go carts, motorbikes, 4-wheelers, those kinds of things...now she gets to step up to the big time...her mama's truck...

personally I think her mama is only giving up the truck so easily because she's ready for another fast car, but that's just my opinion...

not to be outdone by his big sister, my (almost) 5 year old nephew somehow talked my tough, bad -ass brother into a new toy...not to worry though, it has a speed regulator that will only let it go 15 mph right now....

joey's new toy

yep - it's what we do

SPF

Luggage this week and since ours is stored under the bed with some summer clothes stored in it I'm gonna have to go with the new spring FLB (functional lesbian bag)...it's orange hemp...if I were Rick Steves I could travel across Europe for 28 days by only packing a spare pair of khakis, a change of underwear and toothbrush in this bag...but I'm not

in fact, our real luggage was a christmas gift from my dad and stepmother a few years back...matching and monogrammed...it makes us feel oh so grown-up and oh so gay when we use it...how does your luggage make you feel? did you play? go tell Kristine

I cannot get this

talk about suffering

song out of my head...we heard it a couple of times over the weekend and it just won't go away...all week long there's been a southern gospel quartet singing it over and over and over again inside my skull...(even though the version we heard was by somebody else)

like Jesus Camp but different...

I'm done suffering and I'm almost willing to force myself to switch tunes to something horrible like George Michael's Faith...which I just read somewhere is the absolute cure to annoying songs that get stuck in your head....

I'm not that desperate yet, but I'm close...Jesus is still winning for now

I need a beer

Shiner

J's father called today to tell us that her stepmother has to have a heart stint next week and maybe a bypass...her 90-something year old grandmother, who is finally getting a little loopy, is convinced she's pregnant and insists that she needs to get married...the youngest niece is due to deliver (a real baby) any day and no one seems to know if the baby's daddy is gonna be out of jail in time...

on top of that - my family is holding it's monthly birthday shindig on Sunday and we have our own issues in progress...

actually I need 2 or 3 beers

is this week over?

trailer park queen

it occurred to me yesterday that the reason I like to goof off find other things to do at work to channel my creativity is because as much as I love where I am and what I do....these people drive me crazy...

but until I can win the lottery (cause I hear that shit actually happens sometimes) and live the life of luxury like this chick...I guess I'm stuck

It's been awhile

crazy <span class=

since I posted about gospel music...I don't want to disappoint the folks at Gospel Music Fan and because I don't think there are enough tattooed lesbians talking about bluegrass and gospel music...here's some of what today's gospel service at my house has included...
  • Ricky Skaggs & Tony Rice
  • Bill Monroe
  • Dale Ann Bradley
  • Del McCoury
  • Happy Goodmans (VESTAL!)
  • Dottie Rambo
  • Jeff & Sherri Easter
  • Rhonda Vincent
  • Flatt & Scruggs
  • Ralph Stanley
it goes on and on...I have a sincere love and respect for this music...it goes way way back...weird the things that stick through the years...

IF - Hide

John no longer had to hide his secret ambition to be a graffitti artist after getting laid off at the bank...spray paint had always been more appealing to him than calculators anyway

lots more illustrations and interesting stuff at Illustration Friday

here's to a quiet

I had absolutely no patience LEFT OVER after sitting in traffic on the way home yesterday...

Did you play? Am I the only one lacking patience? Go tell Kristine...
