SPF - Muses

Alrighty...it's Friday again...

Something that inspires me:

Like John Prine says, "It's a big old goofy world"....not knowing what weirdness I might encounter every day is pretty motivating and inspirational and what that weirdness might lead to is often a bonus...leaving my own weirdness along the way also helps get me out of bed in the morning....

big old goofy world

Something I DON’T like to read about on blogs:

The holidays - even though I just posted about them recently myself....I suck and they're right around the corner...

santas

Something that inspires me to write my blog:

not going crazy...LOL, I never would have believed it but ever since starting this blog I actually don't think I'll wind up here...

asylum

Who played? Who's not crazy, just a little unwell? Who thinks I can pull off spaghetti for a 100 people at lunch today?

Jesus Camp

jesuscamp

I've been seeing stuff about this documentary for a couple of weeks...this week in particular seems to have drawn a lot of attention...

It interests me for a couple of reasons...I grew up in a conservative evangelical family...Southern Baptist until I was 13 or 14...Assemblies of God until I was 18...(cause everybody knows the remedy to, "as long as you live in this house", right?)

It also interests me because this footage isn't new like the hype makes it seem, the technology is different, the times are definately different, but the things they're saying and the ways the kids are indoctrinated isn't all that different than camps or services I attended...in the 70's and 80's...

a part of me wants to respect the religious freedom of these folks...another part wants to rip their heads off and spit down their necks...but that's just me and I have issues....things are funny that way...

so I will definately be getting this when it comes out on DVD and I will definately be interested to see if public attention holds...anybody else want to see this?

why I shouldn't be left alone in Walmart

because they have tacky holiday themed panties and I will buy them when J isn't paying attention and suprise her with them later

added to show that WM cares about its customers as evidenced by the fact their underwear are dated in order to make sure you wear them at the appropriate times...thanks Big Daddy Sam, wherever you are

Bacon doesn't make everthing taste better

in fact putting it on egg salad sandwiches or in potato salad is down right wrong...especially to someone like me that doesn't eat meat...ever...and I particularly get upset when I'm unknowingly exposed to meat in things that shouldn't have meat in them...ever...

like lunch today...blech

the only thing that could top the disgusting lunch experience will be a trip to Walmart later (if they finally have J's glasses ready which I doubt they will because they're evil)...

Pork and Walmart a SC tradition...go us!
|

Another brilliant idea

I've been hearing about the Corn Maze on the radio for a few days...evidently people who listen to the classic country station also frequent agricultural amusement parks/installations, who knew?...but anyway...after I got home last night and during a commercial while Boston Legal was on, I suggest we go this weekend...J thought I was crazy at first, then hesitantly agreed it might be fun...so I'm looking for pictures of corn mazes this morning on flickr and find this picture of what someone else found in a corn maze in Ohio...if there are snakes in the corn maze there, I have every reason to believe that there are bigger, nastier, packs of flying snakes just waiting to attack me here....

We'll have to find somewhere else to play Saturday

Boobie-Thon

The 5th Annual Boobie-thon is gearing up for it's launch on October 1st.
In 5 years they've raised over $26,000 for breast cancer and blogger charity causes...

October is breast cancer awareness month and this is a fun way to support a serious issue...

It's not too late to send in photo submissions (yeah I'm considering it and will make every attempt to make J participate) and you can donate directly at their site starting soon...

Plus there are cool shots of boobs, boobies, bosoms, racks, tits, and even some breasts I imagine...in varying stages of decoration and exposure...with lots more to come next Sunday!

Go look, you know you want to

thanks to Janet at Fond of Snape for turning me onto this :)

updated to say...I've submitted mine, have you submitted yours????

updated once again because several of you have mentioned how breast cancer has touched you personally - thank you for sharing those experiences...this is a big motivating factor for me as well...J was diagnosed almost 6 years ago, had a mastectomy (and reconstruction), recovered 100% and has had no reoccurrences but it was a scarey, scarey time...anything to prevent or help women (and men) dealing with breast cancer is really important...submitting photos on behalf of a family member or loved one that has been through it is a great idea and would surely make them smile....flash on friends!!

the weekend

sunrise saturday morning

Sunrise Saturday Morning...had to be at an off-site auction at 7:30...that sucked but the sunrise and sky were unbelievable...really...

family

Sunday afternoon...mandatory attendance at monthly family birthday gathering...they look this way a good bit...fuzzy and black and white

on the way

Vestal is on the way the to the fair...there way a whole bunch of last minute stuff that finally resulted in her being finished and framed...maybe a post by itself later this week...but I'm pretty happy that I actually got her there...

the rocket

and the rocket...just because

this week will surely be less irritating and I can catch up with everything I've missed....

for me than to be stuck in a room of grown-ups wearing suits...

it's my special nightmare...

morning visitor

I went out to feed the feral cats this morning and look what was in the yard (and eventually on the doorstep eating cat food)

mystery dog

I've definately never seen her...she had a collar but no tags...obviously she's ferocious...I felt bad just leaving her to roam, I hope her people realized she wasn't where she was supposed to be and have rounded her up by now...poor feral cats didn't know what to do, they were all in different trees and a just a little annoyed with the fact a dog was on their turf...

p.s. this week is too busy, my screwing off time has been greatly limited...and a friend at work reminded me that the fine art entries to the fair have to be submitted Sun, Mon or Tues of next week....which means I have to get Vestal matted and framed quick if she's going...damn I still can't figure out why I thought this was a good idea

If this guy has a motorcycle

so should I...another reason life isn't fair...wish I could have gotten a shot from the front...the cigarette dangling out of his mouth really made the look....and no you don't have to wear a helmet in SC if you're over 21...I do think J is more open to the idea than ever before...Christmas Present? 40th Birthday Present? I need to start making it happen.

P.S. Happy 1 year Blog Anniversary Syd...our server issues and real life have kept me from doing anything (in)appropriate ;)

It's Fall TV Premier time!!!!

Thanks to badmachine at Fake Gay News for this helpful guide to gay girl fall programming...

Cable Channel for Lesbians Announces Fall Line-up

RICHMOND, VA - Lesbian television viewers in secondary markets will have a new entertainment channel devoted to them when LEZ-TV hits their cable boxes this fall. Following the success of urban, gay channels like MTV’s Logo, upstart broadcaster LEZ-TV hopes to grab its share of the lesbian pie with “genres we all know and love, just really ‘gayed-up,’” stated LEZ-TV President, Karen Welsh.

“Gay women in Richmond and Kansas City don’t have access to a lot of gay programming, unless you count Bravo,” Welsh explained. “One lesbian contestant or character per show isn’t enough for us. And why are there no lesbian meerkats on Meerkat Manor?”

Advertisers like Magic Cone, maker of disposable urination funnels, are please to hear audiences give LEZ-TV two thumbs up. “I can’t wait for fall!” said one woman. “Imagining queer subtext on CSI gets old, even if I do have a big crush on Marg Helgenberger.”

LEZ-TV’s fall line-up will include:

OUT TO SEA WITH CAPTAIN BEV: Watch as celebrities like Tammy Lynn Michaels, Sophia B. Hawkins and writer Camille Paglia battle sea sickness, stormy weather and each other to make the biggest catch of the day. Each week, former Merchant Marine and Alaskan fish charmer, Beverly Blank takes a celebrity fishing party out on her boat, the Ol’ Salty Girl, to see who can land the biggest halibut.

DYKE LAWYERS IN LOVE: Giving up fulfilling careers at the ACLU and the HRC wasn’t easy, but the attorneys of Trout, Cox, Manhair and Lee continue to fight the good fight – only now, they’re doing it for high profile clients and big retainers. Tensions run high between former underwear model-turned-tax attorney Nicole and her ex-lover, top litigator and bisexual bombshell Skylar. Sensitive, yet passionate Amy can hold her own in any courtroom, but not so much when it comes to the dating scene. And then there’s Jo, who has as much a way with the female clients as she does with tort reform.

WOMYN VS WOMYN: Who will be the next Melissa Etheridge or Cris Williamson? Wymyn musicians from across the country come together for an empowering, inclusive contest that in no way adheres to the aggressive, competitive paradigms of the patriarchy. Shot entirely on the grounds of the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival, sisters in song vie for the Siren Moon Goddess Award through weekly elimination rounds, while their communal spirits are challenged during the three month contest, as all participants will be forced to live together in a yurt.

AND MOTHER MAKES THREE: Life for partners Lana Wynn and Kylie Young is happy and serene until the day Lana’s ultra-conservative, meddling mother moves in with them after a freak shuffleboard accident burns down her retirement home. Taking her in is the right thing to do, but there’s a hitch – Lana’s mother doesn’t know they’re gay! Can one house fit two lesbians, four cats, two dogs and a cantankerous Republican who insists on fixing her daughter up with every man she meets? Stay tuned to LEZ-TV to find out!

There must be material for another Krofft violation here...let me think....

Holiday Angst

already...and it's still September...J's best friend K is coming from San Francisco to spend Christmas week with us...J told me this morning she's making a list of things we have to have accomplished by mid-November in order to prepare for this visit...most of the things on this list will require assembly, heavy lifting, and time on my part...not to mention the conversation about where and who we will spend Christmas Day with has begun in earnest...this is a touchy subject under normal situations but adding K to the mix will make it trickier than usual...and did I mention that K is a little flakey...she's so...not Southern and loud and odd (all of which are things that endear her to us, btw)...and the idea of adding her to the mix at my family's house is about to trigger an anxiety attic...and to top it all off, I don't think J has told her family we aren't coming to GA this year since I think they may think we are....

I'm going to take a nap and contemplate my list...

SPF - Television Day

Shaun loves to blog nap Random & Odd from time to time...this week it's all about the TV...he thought he could trick everyone into showing their boobs, but he was wrong...even though he does get an A for effort and I appreciate his dedication.

1. Your TV - always tuned to wholesome documentaries that show life when things were easier and simple....this young man is discussing something with his parents before bed

"Geez Dad, I never knew I could go blind...thanks for looking out for me and Wally...I need to tell Eddie and Lumpy at school tomorrow."

091506 008

2. Your Show -Here's what I would do....resurrect all the old Sid and Marty Kroft shows and give them 21st Century twists....

Wouldn't it be the kookiest if Tom Cruise played Tom-lo the magician who entices young Penelope Katie into his magic hat, the entrance to Cruiseville? And wouldn't it even be kookier if young Penelope Katie discovers a baby living in that hat? And wouldn't it just be the koo, koo, kookiest if that baby turns out to be a magic genie named Suri, who tries to help young Penelope Katie escape from Cruiseville, but is stopped at every turn by Tom-lo and his evil minions the Dianetic-Loos?

for those of you that have no idea what Lidsville was, please check here and stop making those of that do remember it feel old

Cruiseville

3. The Newest Member of the Cast - since Tom is questionable as a money making draw these days, I'd keep Rosie Pufnstuf in the wings just in case...I hear she's good in those situations

rosie pufnstuff

so who played? who's gonna be a star? who feels like they have the munchies after the Sid & Marty Kroft talk???

edited to say I'm an idiot and think all Tom Cruise's women look alike - thanks Pattie for catching it ;)

White Buffalo

I don't know why I think this is so interesting, but up until 1994 a white buffalo hadn't been born in the U.S. since 1933...now 3 have been born to the same farmer in Wisconsin...I wonder why that is...needless to say, there is much excitement over the most recent birth...

on a little different, but somewhat related topic...Cryptozoologist is high on my list of fantasy careers...unfortunately those positions don't seem to pop up too often....nor does one of my other ideal jobs but I guess that's to be expected...given my track record I should probably stay put anyway - I don't need to add any other weird jobs to my resume

with 50 proof sheets of pictures from your wedding....here is the scientific proof that I am unable to show any interest whatsoever in your nuptials....my DNA is completely missing the sequence needed to appreciate such events...thanks anyway for asking

edited to say....I'm not a total heartless bitch - mostly....I just have a low tolerance for this person in particular...and a couple of others...but really....I love looking at other's people's pictures...especially if they don't talk like a mouse and make me want me want to thump them...I still sound like a bitch dammit

In Memory - Joel Miller

2,996 is a tribute to the victims of 9/11.

On September 11, 2006, 2,996 volunteer bloggers
will join together for a tribute to the victims of 9/11.

We will honor them by remembering their lives,
and not by remembering their murderers.

I remember Joel Miller.

A disaster recovery technology specialist working for Marsh & McLennan at the World Trade Center. He was 55 years old.

His first wife died of cancer and he later fell in love and married the former president of his synagogue, Marjorie. From comments left by friends and family at the Memorial MMC site, Joel and Margie had a beautiful life together full of love and warmth...

Margie had this to say about her husband...

"Joel was my second chance, my best friend and the man of my dreams.....I know that his life was special not just in his death. I know that he was loved, and he knew it too..."

Not only was Joel a devoted father and husband, he took special comfort in his faith and joined in weekly early morning prayer services. He was preparing to take online courses offered by the Jewish Theological Seminary, combining his love of computers and religion.

According to others, he was also a pretty good poker player and enjoyed weekly games with his friends.

He was a gentle, intelligent man who is no doubt missed every day by those that loved him.

By James Vasquez

A Shepherd do I own, 'tis he,
Who stands with rod and staff,
And ever guides my wandering feet,
On his most just behalf,

In truth, my Shepherd has owned me,
And thus no want I know,
In pastures verdant, by yon hills,
Or where still waters flow.

The Lord my Shepherd is who shall,
My wavering soul restore,
When from the valley, dark with death,
His presence I implore,

And nothing shall I fear just then,
Though darkness all around,
Encloses me, forbidding light,
With naught but shadows found.

A table overflowing with,
Rich victuals prepared,
He spreads before me while my foes,
Look on, their hunger bared.

My head with oil anointed well,
Reflects the sun's bright ray,
My laden cup he furnishes,
On this and every day.

And shall not goodness and his love,
Pursue me all my days,
Assuring that my soul, unmoved,
Rejoices in his ways?

While I, no other dwelling place,
Shall seek or yet desire,
But in his house abide for e'er,
When all my years expire.

My World - the tattooed part

Fond of Snape posted her ink yesterday and asked us to join in...I don't think I've done shown mine so here goes...this is most of them...and I'll preface this post by saying body mods of all kinds are really important to the person getting them...I understand lots of people don't get that, but the forces that drive us to mark and modify our bodies are as individual as the change itself...

This is my right arm...the panther was the first thing I ever got...a 25th birthday present...the artist's name was Walt and he was our next door neighbor for a while...the flower and other stuff was added by this aging biker chic at Painless Paul's in Atlanta...old school shop, kinda scarey but I loved this woman's work....unfortunately I was allergic to the red she used on the ladybug and had some issues but it's all good...same biker chic did the next one....

right arm

big ole chrysanthemum on the outside of my left leg....had to balance the work on my right arm after all...I fell asleep while she was doing this one...being the hi-tech shop that it was, I was laying on a weight bench...this was done a few years after the arm

mum

my next ones came from a guy in Atlanta...Dirk Hays, he's an amazing artist...both of these are original pieces...he also did a big piece on J's left arm...a funky underwater scene...we loved Dirk, just a great guy all around...he was also an amazing gardener and we'd run into him a good bit at the local nurseries...he also tattooed my youngest brother and she who must not be named (my mother) just for the record - I am really pale and take color extremely well...this ink kinda glows under a black light....oh, this is the inside of my right calf....

right leg

the last thing I had done was a celtic knot - an anniversary present a few years back...J and I got the same design in the same place -outside right calf...what I'd love to do eventually is to have a large tribal piece that ties the gecko, the crazy lily and the knot together...some day...

knot

needless to say...I'm always up for more, but real life seems to keep getting in the way....once the hoo-ha of tattooing finally being legal in SC dies down, I imagine we will...who else wants to show off their color? or brands? or piercings or whatever....:)

SPF - The World According to Lee

a thinking required SPF and right after a holiday weekend too...that's tough...but after seeing Shaun's Bohemian Rhapsody (and showing it to a bunch of other people at work)...I felt inspired...definately go watch this if you haven't...really...it's incredible...anyway onto the stuff...

1. My Freedom....that's such a grey thing in my mind...freedom seems like a series of starts and stops to me...just because I can do something doesn't mean I should....and things I'm free to do aren't always the right choice...I remember being told when I was a kid that each person's freedom stops where another person's begins...maybe that's true

stop light

2. My Hope....this one is kind of selfish, but I hope my life continues in the direction it has been for the last year and a half...no sudden changes, no unexpected shit...just moving ahead

hand on the steering wheel

3. My Wish....to consistently get a restful night's sleep...

bed

Who did some thinking? Who watched Bohemian Rhapsody?

Happy SPF!

Editorial Cartoonists

I got an email about this project yesterday...interesting, right? guess I'll be reading up on Ion Luca Caragiale at some point soon....

but what's more interesting is the group sponsoring the exhibit - The Cartoonists Rights Network Eastern Europe

Our Primary Mission Is To Make Editorial Cartoonists The Most Powerful People In The World

I think that's one of the best mission statements I've ever read...editorial cartoonists take a big idea or event and condense it into a simple image, often without using words at all...easier said than done....and it's easy to take for granted that the right to do that very thing isn't appreciated, respected or protected in many areas of the world...

Check out their site....take a look at some of the cartoons...then flip to the editorial page of your paper today and appreciate those artists a little bit more
